Scholarship Descriptions

We are grateful to the donors who have chosen to make a difference in our students' lives. To follow is a brief description of each of our current scholarships.


Accounting Area Advisory Council

Awarded to accounting majors.

Awarded to one or more business students majoring in accounting.

Anaya & Company Ltd

Awarded to a junior or senior business major (not bails), U.S. citizen, Arizona resident who works a minimum of 20 hours per week and is involved in volunteer activities.

Arizona CPA Foundation For Education & Research

Awarded to accounting majors who have excelled in their field.

Charles W. Baldwin Management

Established in honor of Charles W. Baldwin, a former NAU Administrator and The W. A. Franke College of Business faculty member. Students must be U.S. citizens and management majors.

Tom O. Bellwood Memorial

Given to a deserving business student on the basis of service to the University, potential for success, and leadership. The Bellwood Scholarship is given in memory of the late Dr. Tom O. Bellwood, former Dean of the College of Business Administration.

Frank Besnette

Awarded in honor of former College of Business dean and faculty member to
• Meritorious Arizona student with financial need.

Ralph M. & Mary E. Bilby Memorial

Given in memory of the late Ralph and Mary Bilby who made invaluable contributions to the University and to the College of Business Administration.
• 3.5 GPA

Mac Bosse CIS Scholarship

Established by Doris Patton in honor of Malcolm Bosse, a CIS professor in The W. A. Franke College of Business from 1966-1998.
• Awarded to one or more deserving CIS undergraduate students.

A. John Briel

From an NAU Foundation fund established in memory of the late A. John Briel, a member of the business faculty from 1947-1985. Awarded to one or more students who are U.S. citizens and who are eligible for business major status.

Neil V. Christensen Memorial

This NAU Foundation memorial fund was established in memory of the late Neil V. Christensen, a Flagstaff attorney for many years. The annual award goes to a graduate of a-

• Business major

Tom & Judith Crimmins

Awarded to Winslow High graduate, full-time student, US citizen, to sophomore original year of award then renewable

Clifton Gunderson

Computer Information Systems Area Faculty

Awarded to one or more outstanding students majoring in computer information systems.

Dean’s Fund for Student International Travel

Established by Tracy and Craig Van Slyke to assist students in pursuing international educational experiences.
• Undergrad in the FCB
• Used to support student international travel
• In application, student must provide a supportive statement relating to how funds would be used for travel

Deloitte Scholarship

Awarded to accounting majors who have excelled in their field.

Michael S. Dishner Memorial Scholarship

Given in memory of the late Michael Dishner, a graduate of The W. A. Franke College of Business at NAU, to one or more outstanding accounting majors who have excelled in their field.
• GPA 3.2
• Fall distribution if December grad
• F/S if May grad
• US Citizen
• Senior year of award (Junior when selected)

Joseph F. And Corinne J. Dox

Awarded to an undergraduate student who was honorably discharged from military service or adversely affected by a family member’s military service (e.g., spouse or parent killed in military action).
• GPA 2.5

The Jack Dustman Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to declared management majors with an interest in Human Resources. The applicant must submit a recommendation from a faculty member. This scholarship is renewable.

Economics Area Faculty

Awarded to one or more business students majoring in economics.

Ernst & Young Scholarship

Awarded to an accounting major with at least a 3.0 GPA

Lorraine Ethington

A memorial scholarship to aid a nontraditional student, native-born U.S. citizen, working and supporting a family; based on academic effort; minimum GPA of 2.50.
• Non-traditional student (returning to school after not having attended)
• Full time student (12 credit hours)
• US born citizen
• Renewable

Federated Insurance

Awarded to a junior or senior with a 3.25 GPA in the business major, involvement/interest in business, finance, or risk management and insurance, evidence of extracurricular involvement (school, community, athletics, arts, etc.).

Finance Area Faculty

Awarded to one or more business students majoring in finance.

Financial Executives International

Awarded to finance and/or accounting student.

Larry And Barbara Gardner Remembrance

Awarded to accounting majors who have excelled in their field, in memory of the Gardners who contributed much to The W. A. Franke College of Business, NAU, and Flagstaff. The FCB Auditorium is named for the Gardners.
• GPA 3.0
• Senior (90+ credit hours completed)
• 1 scholarship (not to be split)

Patrick D. Geddes

Awarded to graduate of Bourgade or other Phoenix Catholic high school, sophomore year of initial award, renewable, full-time student.
• 3.0 GPA

Goodrich Corporation

Awarded to a CIS major in their junior year of initial award, renewable, student taking SAP curriculum.

Marie Hachtel

Awarded to junior, senior or graduate business student. Renewable.

HintonBurfick, PLLC, Accounting Scholarship

Established by HintonBurdick, a regional accounting firm with an office in Flagstaff, Arizona and other offices located in Utah and Nevada.
• Student enrolled in FCB as full time junior or senior
• GPA 3.0
• Preference given to student from northern Arizona

Lillian Hall

Awarded to an outstanding accounting major in honor of Lillian Hall who was Coconino County Treasurer for many years and who continues to be an active member of the Flagstaff community.
• 5th year accounting student (MBA ok)

The Halstead Foundation

Awarded to multiple business majors who demonstrate financial need by working or actively seeking work.
• GPA 3.0

Accounting major, rising junior, full-time student, US citizen, AZ resident.

Hunter Hagan & Company

Awarded to an accounting student entering 4th or 5th year with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Paula and Julianne Jacobs MBA Scholarship

Established by Robert, Paula, and Julianne Jacobs to provide a student with the opportunity to obtain an MBA.
• Full time grad student in MBA program
• Financial need shall not be a consideration for selection
• US citizen
• Funds will be used for tuition and/or textbooks

Paula and Julianne Jacobs Marketing Scholarship

Established by Robert, Paula, and Julianne Jacobs to provide a student with the opportunity to obtain marketing degree from NAU.

Established by alumna Theresa Jeszka Drew as an honor and tribute to her parents, to provide an enduring scholarship for accounting students.

Awarded to an accounting major who has excelled in the field.

Eleanor & Diedrich Knubel Memorial

Established by alumnus Tom Knubel in honor of his parents. Awarded to two business students who qualify for Disability Student Services.

Awarded to a junior in accountancy or finance with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. Preference given to students with an interest in international business, then members of NAU student service organizations

Kraetz Family Scholarship

Established by Marie Kraetz to honor the memory of her son, James E Kraetz, a former NAU College of Business student, dedicated to earning his undergraduate degree and committed to his future career goals.
• Enrolled as an undergraduate student in the FCB
• Demonstrate serious commitment to completing their undergraduate education as well as establishing goals for a successful career

Lorents Family Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in information systems.

Awarded to a US citizen who is a full-time student.

Management Area Faculty

Awarded to one or more outstanding students majoring in management.

Marketing Area Faculty

Awarded to one or more outstanding students majoring in marketing.

McCord Scholars

Awarded to students entering junior or senior year, AZ resident, renewable, maintain 3.6 GPA.

McGladrey Scholarship

Awarded to an accounting major going into 5th year of study (in pursuit of 150 hours) who is interested in a public accounting career.

Mitchem Family

Established by Dennis E. Mitchem, whose dedication to higher education is exemplified in his work for NAU, and his philanthropy, volunteerism, and political causes.
• Preference given to an accounting honors students
• GPA 3.5

O’Bannon Anaya & Company, Ltd. Business

Awarded to a full-time student who is a U.S. citizen and a junior or senior in the year of the award, who works at least 20-hours per week, and participates in volunteer activity. Established by Kristine Anaya (’97).

Dorris Patton MBA Scholarship

Established by the FCB MBA program. Doris was the MBA Program Coordinator for eight years and her contributions to the success of the program and the placement of the graduates are unsurpassed.

Laverne R. Pitcher Memorial

A memorial fund established in memory of the late Laverne Pitcher, a former Vice President at NAU.

Regier Carr Monroe

Established by Regier Carr & Monroe, LLP to support the educational aspirations of students from Pima County, in pursuit of a career in the field of accounting.

John Ricca Memorial

Established by John and Elizabeth White in memory of their friend, John Ricca (’38 Education; ’64 Honorary), who was a distinguished alumnus of the College of Business. Awarded to deserving business students.

Emily and Mike Santellanes Family

Established by Emily and Mike (’60) Santellanes, long-time supporters of NAU. Emily and Mike’s two daughters, Linda (’83) and Nina (’84), also graduated from NAU.

Awarded to a student active in at least one service organization; preference for overcoming adversity.

Sherri Craddock Slayton

Established by Sherri Slayton (’85). Awarded to a graduate of a Flagstaff high school, who demonstrates financial need and maintains a part-time job while attending NAU.

Wilma Stricklin

Established by NAU alumni in honor of Dr. Wilma Stricklin who taught at the College of Business from 1967–1976. Awarded to a freshman or sophomore management major (to be awarded following year) who has exhibited academic excellence.

Awarded to an FCB student worker.

Eugene L. Thomas

A memorial fund in memory of the late Eugene Thomas who was an enthusiastic advocate of higher education and business students. Awarded to Arizona business students, based on academic scholarship.

James Toyota Wrestling for Education

Established by James Toyota (’88). Awarded to a full-time student who was a varsity wrestler in a Tucson or other Arizona high school.

United Indian Traders

Awarded to business majors who are high school graduates from the Four Corners area, interested in entrepreneurship; based on financial need and academic excellence.
• Full time student (12 credits)

Robert H. Williams Family

Established by the Robert H. Williams family.  Robert H. Williams is retired after 32 years as a marketing professor in FCB. Awarded to an Arizona resident who is a marketing major and has demonstrated leadership or participation in volunteer service.
• GPA 2.75

• At least 42 hours completed
• Leadership or participation in volunteer service will be considered
