Savage Receives the ASCPA 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award
Kathryn Savage, professor of accounting, has been recognized for her outstanding commitment to the FCB students and the accounting profession by the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants with their 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award. The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes outstanding accounting faculty that are preparing students for a career as a CPA.
Bob Kilpatrick, professor of accounting and accounting area coordinator, submitted this well-deserved nomination:
"Dr. Savage is a Professor of Accounting and has been at NAU since 1991, serving seven years as Associate Dean for The W.A. Franke College of Business (FCB). Dr. Savage has established an exemplary record of teaching excellence and innovation (evidenced by 11 teaching awards), engaged in a prolific research agenda, provided strategic leadership in college initiatives, and mentored countless students throughout her career at NAU. Her outstanding efforts in these areas resulted in her being recognized as an exemplary performer in each of the two past years. This new designation is awarded to only the top 10-percent of faculty at NAU; Kathy is the only FCB faculty member to receive this recognition in each of the two years it has been in effect."
Kilpatrick goes on to outline the many ways Dr. Savage has demonstrated her excellence through the years, including the following:
"Kathy has received the NAU Outstanding MBA Professor for an impressive 11 times since joining the NAU Accounting Area, including 8 of the past 13 years.
"The FCB Annual Review Committee evaluates all aspects of student-related responsibilities, including those beyond the classroom performance data. Kathy’s evaluations for student-related responsibilities have been rated as 'Highly Meritorious,' the highest possible evaluation, in each of the past five years."
"In summary, Kathy Savage is a productive and valuable faculty member in the Accounting Area at Northern Arizona University. She works hard to be an excellent teacher, mentor, researcher, and colleague. I truly believe Dr. Savage is highly deserving of recognition as the recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award from the Arizona CPA Foundation for Education and Innovation," he concludes.
Congratulations to Professor Savage for this recognition of her dedication to the FCB accounting program, to her profession, and to her students over her many years of service.
