Beta Gamma Sigma Induction Ceremony
NAU’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), one of the business honor societies within the FCB, welcomed 12 new members at their induction ceremony on March 29, 2013. William “Vasili” Brinkmann, Erin Hyde, Joshua Chinskey, Nikki DuPoy, Steve Lopez, Samantha Stansbery, Jaclyn Hanks, Samantha Lane, Shiqi Miao, Adriana Racine, Matthew Shangraw, and Megan Slade joined the ranks of others before them in this prestigious organization.
Ron Gunderson, professor of economics, and John Eastwood, lecturer of economics, are both faculty members of BGS. Gunderson opened the ceremony with a welcoming address and discussed the history of BGS before inducting the new students.
“I decided to join BGS because I didn’t want to let an opportunity made possible by years of hard work, sacrifice, and persistence to simply slip away,” explained junior marketing major Steve Lopez.
“Students must meet certain grade requirements in order to be considered,” Gunderson said. “There’s a one-time cost for membership, but it comes with benefits and discounts on products and services.”
Member benefits range from discounts on magazine subscriptions, travel offers, and insurance offers.
BGS is celebrating their 100th year in operation, making their tradition that much stronger and impressive.
“In my opinion, having that extra distinguishing factor for future employers to see makes being a part of BGS worth it,” Lopez said. “Holding membership displays our adherence to higher standards which extend beyond academic endeavors.”
