CIS Mock Interviews Prepare Students for the Real World
On Friday, April 12, 2013, the CIS Advisory Council held mock interviews with business professionals for students to get the feel of what to expect during the real thing.
CIS major Josh Kovatch took advantage of this opportunity. “I feel that as I go into the real world, I am far better equipped to make an impression on employers and really find my place,” he said.
During the event, students could choose to be interviewed for one of three positions—Systems Administrator, SAP Business Analyst, or Analyst – IS Web Content Management. They prepared a resume and had to go through a phone interview before meeting with a council member in person.
“After the interview sessions are completed, the students are given a critique of their performance, said Sury Ravindran, associate professor of CIS. “Then they are given suggestions on what aspects of their experience and coursework to highlight, and they are also asked to carry out research about the company they are interviewing with so as to be prepared to respond to questions on how they fit in.”
“I learned quite a bit from the event, most importantly that you can never do too much preparation,” Kovatch said.
