Du and Ng Recognized with the 2017 Charles R. Goeldner Article of Excellence Award
FCB faculty members, Ding Du, associate professor of finance, and Pin Ng, professor of economics, along with Alan Lew, a professor from SBS, were notified on April 21, 2017 that their article titled, "Tourism and Economic Growth" in Vol. 55(4), was honored with the 2017 Charles R. Goeldner Article of Excellence Award. The news came via email from Geoffrey Crouch, editor of the Journal of Travel Research, and was announced at the 2017 TTRA Conference in Quebec from June 20-22.
Dear Alan [Lew, co-author], Ding and Pin,
I am most pleased to contact you in order to let you know that your article titled Tourism and Economic Growth has been judged to be the recipient of the 2017 Charles R. Goeldner Article of Excellence Award in JTR for 2016. Please accept my most sincere congratulations.
As you will know, this is a most prestigious scholarly research award.
Your article was selected by a panel of 16 members of the JTR Editorial Board who were not, themselves, eligible for the award in 2016.
The Award includes:
- A travel grant totalling US$500 to be shared among co-authors, as they wish, if more than one author intends to attend.
- A plaque – one for each co-author – to acknowledge the award.
- Complimentary conference registration for attending co-authors.

The Charles R. Goeldner Article of Excellence Award is named after the long-time and Founding Editor of the Journal of Travel Research. This prestigious annual award recognizes the article, published in the preceding year, which has been judged to make the greatest contribution to the tourism research literature in terms of its impact on tourism theory and management practice. The award recipient is determined by a panel of Editorial Board/Policy Board members and is presented each year at the Annual Travel and Tourism Research Association Conference.
