The Career Development Office’s (CDO) Fall 2015 Career Exploration Day was held on Friday, October 2, 2015, and set records all around. With 31 new companies participating, the total number in attendance came to 102 companies spread throughout all four floors of the FCB building. The building was packed with more than 700 registered students as they talked to recruiters, hoping to get that elusive internship or post-grad job.

Many of the recruiters representing their companies had been to previous fairs and looked forward to meeting new potential employees.

Tommy Hernandez, general manager at Fastenal and FCB alumn (‘15), noted the good relationship Fastenal has with the university.

“All of our part-time employees are NAU students,” he said. “I was introduced through the [Fastenal Sales] competition (story HERE) [and] now I’m the GM of the Flag location.”

The connections that students are able to make through events like this are valuable for networking opportunities.

“By coming to the panels and by coming to the fair, even if they’re not ready for a job yet, the recruiters remember them,” explained CDO Program Coordinator Wendy Tappan. “It’s the same recruiters over and over, and when they see them at the fair they start building that relationship.”

Senior accounting student Allison Figuera was mainly looking for summer internships to gain some extra experience before she begins the MBA program next fall, and was re-visiting with recruiters from  REDW'. She said, “I like that REDW is a smaller regional firm and they’re flexible. I’ve talked to them at previous fairs.”

Over 20 companies came back to conduct on-campus interviews in the week following the fair and continued through the month of October.

The spring career fair is already being planned for Friday, February 26, 2016. Be sure to come out and make an impression on your ideal employer.
