FCB Business Career Prep Week
The Career Development Office (CDO) will be hosting their Career Exploration Day [learn more HERE] for the Fall 2013 semester on Thursday, October 3, 2013. Career Exploration Day is an event where students can talk to employers, hand out their resumes, and hopefully schedule interviews. More than 65 businesses are anticipated to have representatives at this event which will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. throughout the FCB Business building.
This semester, however, the CDO has expanded the job-related events to cover the entire week in order for students to have more time rather than just one day to be prepared for meeting employers on Career Exploration Day.
“I wanted to make a more comprehensive week filled with resources that will help students be successful in their job search,” said Ron Smith, director of the CDO.
Monday, September 30th will kick off the week with a Pathways event on resume writing.
Tuesday, October 1st, the CDO will hold resume workshop sessions providing 10-minute consultations with students who bring in their completed resumes. NOTE: The week prior to Career Prep Week will also focus on resume-building; Mary Bowers and Marcia Metcalf will be reviewing resumes online during the week of September 23rd to help students prepare a resume that will get noticed by employers. Completed resumes can be e-mailed to them at Mary.Bowers@nau.edu and Marcia.Metcalf@nau.edu and they will be in the Career Development Office (room 108) between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. as well as from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday, October 2nd, there will be a Corporate Career Panel, open to all business majors, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Gardner Auditorium where representatives from the Charles Schwab Corporation, Robert Half Company, General Motors Company and REDW CPA/Business and Financial Advisors will discuss their companies and job-related topics such as interview skills, the impact of social media, and the job evaluation process. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions towards the end of the session as well as drop off their resume with the panelists. Everyone who attends will qualify to receive a door prize.
Students must register online HERE for the career panel event. Registered students who attend the panel will be eligible to have a professional photo taken (free) for their LinkedIn account. Photo sessions will be offered on Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Students are also encouraged to take advantage of the CDO’s webpage HERE for resources covering interview skills and how to dress professionally before Career Prep Week.
