FCB Learning Community Mentor Sought-Deadline January 21, 2013
Deadline for Applications: Monday, January 21, 2013 at 5 PM so act NOW!
NAU's Residence Life in partnership with The W. A. Franke College of Business (FCB) offers two Learning Communities* for incoming business students. There is one opening as a Community Mentor position available for the next academic year. Training for this position is this spring 2013.
According to Margaret Dunfee, lecturer of management within the college, “The FCB LC is an important program that gives incoming freshmen unique opportunities to tour local businesses; meet with FCB faculty and leadership; and participate in campus activities with fellow freshmen.”
Why be a LC Mentor?
For the mentor, this adds a rich component to their resumé, especially in the demonstration of leadership.
What it takes to be an FCB LC Mentor
Prior experience is not necessary; students selected to become mentors will take an 8-week class during the 2013 spring semester as part of their extensive training.
An ideal candidate would be someone who is outgoing, approachable, has good study habits, is capable of multi-tasking, possesses leadership qualities and is comfortable working with freshman students both individually and as a group. Students must be attending NAU full-time with a 3.0 GPA or greater.
Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year are due no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 so if this sounds like the perfect position, more information and the online application can be found on the NAU website HERE.
* More about NAU Learning Communities
Leaving home and going to school in a strange, new environment can be an overwhelming experience for many. However, NAU offers a Learning Community (LC) program created to help freshmen feel comfortable and get accustomed to the responsibilities that come with being a college student.
