FCB Takes 1st Place in CFA Institute Global Investment Research Challenge
On February 16, 2017 NAU took 1st place in the Desert Regional Competition of the CFA Institute Global Research Challenge, whose goal is to promote "best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts" [CFA Institute website]. Faculty advisor, Matt Haertzen, senior lecturer of finance, once again led the way for another win.
The Phoenix CFA Society has hosted the regional competition for seven years. NAU-FCB has won three times during that time period against both graduate and undergraduate teams from University of Arizona, Arizona State University, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and the University of New Mexico (FCB's teams have only used undergrads).
This year's winning team members were Lauren Gerber-Manning, Ryan Rogala, Thomas Munayyer, and Skyler Zweifel.
Each team wrote a research report on an assigned company and defended their analysis in front of a panel of business professionals. Once the competition concluded, the teams networked at the annual Market Forecast Dinner where students discussed the constantly changing global market and the future from a financial perspective.
The next stop for the team is Seattle, Washington from April 6 – 7, where the America’s Competition will be held. If [when!] they win there, they head to Prague, Czech Republic to represent NAU in the global final at the end of April.
