Indigo Partners and the W.A. Franke College of Business
On June 1st, two students started their internship with Indigo Partners LLC. Indigo Partners LLC is a private equity and venture capital firm specializing in making investments in acquisitions and growth capital. It was founded in 2002 and is based in Phoenix, Arizona. One of the cofounders is the namesake of the college of business at Northern Arizona University, William A. Franke. Since his $25 million pledge, the W.A. Franke College of Business has benefitted nearly 30,000 students. More information can be found in the article “Celebrating a decade of impact: How one family changed the lives of 29,504 NAU students”.
It is no easy task being accepted into the Indigo Partners internship program. Candidates submit their application to the Dean of the college of business and then are screened and selected by a committee of faculty members. After the selection pool is made, they are called in for an interview with the selection committee. Once through that process, they are then invited to interview with a panel of members of the Indigo Partners team before moving on to the next round. This year, NAU is proud to announce that Rene Coggins and Eric Hughes will be participating in this great opportunity.
Rene Coggins graduated on May 12th, as a Finance major with two additional majors in Accounting and Hotel & Restaurant Management. After participating in the internship Rene hopes to attend graduate school at Penn State, Colombia, or Stanford. Following her completion of her graduate studies, she wants to be Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a company or even considers starting her own company.
Here is what she had to say about the application and interview process:
“The interview process was equally intense and rewarding. Going through multiple rounds of interviewing and testing our financial modeling skills, over the course of months, really tested me. However, the excitement of hearing I made it to the next round was unforgettable. Just going through the interview process, I felt like the job had already begun and I had already learned so many skills that I can carry forward into future interviews.”

Eric Hughes graduated on May 12th, as a Finance major with a certificate in Investments. Eric commented on the interview process as being “the most intense application process” that he has been a part of. Here is what he looks forward too and what he plans to do following the internship:
“What I look forward to most about working with Indigo Partners is learning as much as possible and gaining experience in private equity. The internship is not easy by any means, and I look forward to the challenge. After completing the internship, I will then pursue my MBA and then hopefully either re-enter private equity or begin my career in another part of the finance industry.”
~ Eric Hughes
Both students are excited for opportunity and we could not be happier for them.
The W.A. Franke College of Business strives to educate and support the success of all of its students. By working in conjunction with companies, such as Indigo Partners, the college works to provide opportunities to students that will help them succeed in their goals and career aspirations.
