NAU is a unique school in many ways. One of the services NAU offers that other universities do not is a Veterans Student Center that caters specifically to The W. A. Franke College of Business (FCB) and Hotel & Restaurant Management (HRM) students. The W. A. Franke College of Business Veteran Student Center (FCB VSC) has recently launched their new webpage [HERE] where veterans can find information on all the services offered to them through the Center.

Laurie Jordon, coordinator for the FCB VSC, plans for the website to be the go-to place for all student veterans within FCB and HRM to ensure they are getting the most out of the veteran programs at NAU. The website currently has a calendar of events, a list of services the FCB VSC offers, and various resources for veterans. Veteran students can also go the website to find the link to where they can certify their benefits after they enroll in classes.

“That is huge [in regards to encouraging students to visit the website] because any kind of changes they make in their schedule, they have to fill out this form so they can receive their VA Educational Benefit payments, ” Jordon explained.

“[The website] is a great way for me to disseminate information, to give them the calendar of events, and to offer any career development opportunities like shadowing experiences and available internships,” Jordon said.

The goals of the FCB VSC are to support our student veterans in the unique challenges of transitioning from military life to student life, to build the retention rates of veteran students and to help with academic success and professional development.

“We want these students to graduate, to be successful, and to have a professional career in their field. [They can] bring that worldly experience they have to their different professional fields,” Jordon said.

Student veterans are encouraged to contact Jordon for any needs on campus that they may have and continue to check the website for news and updates.

“[The website] is a place that I want  our student veterans to go to often,” Jordon said. “It’s a work-in- progress but we’re going to improve it , add video testimonials, and strive to make it better and better.”
