Monday, December 3, Rick Rodriguez ('84), vice president of finance and accounting with Sony Pictures Television International Production, visited campus. He is also a member of the FCB National Advisory Board.

Rodriguez had a full itinerary during his visit which included tickets to our basketball game, several meetings, and presenting in Emy Tice's Financial Analysis and Working Capital class. He discussed the budgeting process, forecasting cash flows for mergers and acquisitions, the hurdle rate (cost of capital) that Sony uses to evaluate these potential projects, and many of the challenges of doing business internationally. Students were able to indentify with these concepts as they related to the course and gained an overall better understanding of the class.

He also made time to visit with a few select students from the Business Leadership Program (BLP). While being introduced to the BLP students, Dean Van Syke presented Rodriguez with his Hall of Fame award as he had been unable to attend the award dinner in October. Hall of Fame 2012 story HERE.

The BLP gathering was a very intimate setting that allowed for direct interaction with the students. Rodriguez focused the discussion on ethics, challenges in the workplace, management and leadership. The students engaged in a question-and-answer type of discussion with him afterwards.

The students were thrilled about the meeting and walked away with valuable advice.
