SMIF Presents to the NAU Foundation Investment Committee
As part of the student managed investment fund classes, FIN 441 and FIN 442, the students are responsible for managing a $1.7 million portfolio for the NAU Foundation Endowment Fund. Each semester, the students are required to present an investment review to the NAU Foundation Investment Committee in Scottsdale, Arizona. On April 9, 2014 the SMIF students were accompanied by David Allen, associate professor of finance and Matt Haertzen, senior lecturer of finance. The students gave their presentation and then answered questions from the committee for about half an hour.
During the trip, the students were also able to attend the Phoenix CFA Society monthly investment luncheon. The students were invited to go to the Phoenix Country Club and hear an investor presentation from the gold-mining firm, Northern Vertex Mining Corporation, which has a mine in northwestern Arizona.
The students presented themselves professionally, and were excited to have the opportunity to hear an investor’s presentation and interact with members of the Phoenix CFA Society.
